Man sentenced to prison for animal cruelty

LEXINGTON -- A McLean County man was sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison for animal cruelty.
LEXINGTON -- A McLean County man was sentenced to 2-1/2 years in prison for animal cruelty. Curtis Cleary pleaded guilty in April, after police found more than 60 cats and a dozen dogs in his house, all dead. He was found when his then-girlfriend called 911 for help.

The court said Cleary had neglected and starved them, and a judge called Cleary's home a "house of horrors." Cleary's lawyer said he thought someone else was taking care of the animals.

Protestors turned up at the courthouse for his sentencing. One protestor witnessed the scene for herself, and said "the only thing worse than the scene was the smell."
