CHICAGO -- Anyone watching the Bears take on the Cowboys Monday night might have been watching for one coach in particular. The team retired Mike Ditka's jersey at Soldier Field.

The family which owns the Bears fired Ditka in 1992, but they were proud to hang up his jersey at the game. Ditka played for the Bears from 1961 - 1966. He coached the team from 1982 - 1992.

CHICAGO -- Bears fans and people around the state are recognizing "Da Coach." Governor Pat Quinn declared Monday "Mike Ditka Day."

It's in connection to the Bears-Cowboys game. During halftime, the team will retire Ditka's number 89 jersey.

He's a former Bears tight end and coach. He's the 14th player to have his number retired by the team.
