Money & jobs focus of candidates

URBANA -- The spring election is just one week away.
URBANA -- The spring election is just one week away. Two people are vying for the mayoral seat. Money and jobs are on the minds of both candidates.

Republican Rex Bradfield says the city needs to create more jobs. He says projects like the Boneyard Development and Landmark Hotel are a waste of taxpayer money.

The city is spending millions of dollars between the two. Bradfield says city leaders should have asked voters how they want their money used.

But, incumbent Mayor Laurel Prussing says they couldn't have used it for anything else. Mayor Prussing says it's a much different race this time than when she first ran.

She says money is still tight, but she's proud the city has been able to cut back while keeping workers. It includes all the police officers and firefighters.

Both candidates say they plan to be out knocking on doors and talking to voters between now and Election Day next week.
