No agreement what to do when tax laws expire

SPRINGFIELD -- The state's income tax laws are getting ready to expire and lawmakers can't agree on a new set of rules.
SPRINGFIELD -- The state's income tax laws are getting ready to expire and lawmakers can't agree on a new set of rules. Right now, everyone in Illinois pays a flat 5% income tax, but some Democrats want a graduated system where higher earners pay higher taxes.

Republicans say it would be devastating for working families, especially in our area. Supporters of the graduated tax say it would help Illinois get out of debt faster, but Representative Bill Mitchell (R-DECATUR) says Illinois would be better off cutting taxes and spending.
