CHAMPAIGN -- A cellphone camera captured a fight between a police officer and suspect. It's gotten thousands of hits on www.worldstarhiphop.com. It happened at the Super Pantry on Prospect. Authorities say the shirtless man aggressively approached Officer Cully Schweska.

Officer Schweska responded to the scene after receiving a tip a woman wanted on an arrest warrant was at the gas station. When Officer Schweska approached her, Charles Grindley tried to stop him. Police say he was aggressive, didn't listen to the officer and raised clenched fists. He started fighting with the officer and it continued until backup arrived.

Authorities sprayed Grindley with pepper-spray but say he still fought. Grindley was finally handcuffed. Both he and Officer Schweska were hurt and treated for minor injuries.

The police department is standing by Officer Schweska.

"It is never okay for a citizen to take matters into their own hands and fight with a police officer. In these types of situations, it is better to let the officer complete the call and continue gathering information. This situation could have been avoided if both parties would have cooperated and allowed the officer to perform his duties. Fortunately, neither the officer nor the offender was seriously injured in this incident," says Police Chief Anthony Cobb.
