CHARLESTON -- Park officials are worried about bugs taking over their trees. They met Wednesday night to discuss the emerald ash borer. The small beetle eats and kills ash trees. It's already been spotted in Champaign, Decatur and many other cities in Central Illinois.

Forestry officials want to buy a machine which injects trees with chemicals to kill the bugs. It takes one-to-three years before the insects can be detected. City leaders hope to save as many ash trees as possible.
