SAVOY -- Willard Airport is asking for better equipment to deal with winter weather. It needs money to take on several projects, including a salt spreader, snow broom and blower. It could cost tens of thousands of dollars. Until mid-March, people can weigh in on the issue.

SAVOY -- New equipment is needed at Willard Airport. A $4.50 passenger fee will pay for it. It's already included when you purchase an airline ticket. Willard Airport is simply allocating that money somewhere else.

The amount is the maximum the airport is able to charge. It's common for airlines across the country. The money will be used to buy snow removal equipment and widen runways.

The manager says most of the current equipment is 30 years old, but adds, telling the public where the money is going is important. The money will start funding the equipment upgrades in September.

Previously, the fee paid for a new fire truck and passenger boarding bridges. Projects have already been approved by the airlines and the FAA. A meeting is scheduled for March 17 at the airport for public comment.
