ILLINOIS -- The Land of Lincoln will be the first state to no longer allow personal care products using synthetic plastics.
 ILLINOIS -- The Land of Lincoln will be the first state to no longer allow personal care products using synthetic plastics. Governor Quinn signed a bill Sunday banning the manufacturing and sale of products with microbeads.

These microbeads are small pieces of plastic the size of a grain of salt found in toothpastes, soaps and other bath products. Studies show microbeads are flushed through the water system and can be highly toxic. The new law requires beads be removed by 2018.
