DANVERS -- Police don't usually investigate dog deaths, but one case in McLean County has officials looking for answers. Now the University of Illinois is getting involved.

"Two young dogs were found dead on these railroad tracks in Carlock. Now people here are worried there was human involvement."

The dogs' owner reported to police her 15-month old Rottweiler and 14-week old pit-bull were missing Saturday. The bad news came just a few days later. Tuesday, a neighbor near the tracks found the dogs.

One was decapitated and, yards away, the other was still intact. the owner took the deceased dogs to a veterinarian in Normal for examination. That vet believes there's more to the story and that the dogs were dead before being put on the tracks.

"The dogs were taken to the University of Illinois where they're undergoing further testing. Reports should back next week."

Danvers police are handling the investigation.
