Police Need Help Solving Armed Robberies

Three robberies in four months.  Investigators say it could be the same suspect.

   Champaign police hope someone will recognize the man or men pictured below.  The pictures were taken by security cameras during recent robberies.  The Circle K station at 1713 W. John Street was hit twice in late-November and 2 months later in January.  A taxi cab driver was ripped off about a week later near Vine and Wright Streets.
   All the suspects are said to be black men between 25 and 30 years old and possible near 200 pounds.  Ben Newell is with the Champaign Police Department.  He said, "Armed robbery isn't something that happens all the frequently in Champaign and to have this type of similar description, it's worth looking into."

   Champaign police are seeking the public's help in three separate armed robberies. The first happened November 25, 2011, about 3:30 am at the Circle K, in the 1700-block of W. John Street. The clerk was threatened with a gun by a suspect demanding money.
    The suspect is described as a light-skinned, black male with freckles, between 25-30 years old, 5'10", about 200 lbs., and brown eyes. He was wearing a black ski mask, dark brown jacket with fur collar, light-colored gloves, and light-colored blue jeans.


    The second hold up took place January 29, 2012, about 3 am, at the same location. The suspect grabbed and pushed the clerk from a storage room to the register. No weapon was shown, but the clerk felt a hard object against the back.
    The suspect took off with money. He's described as a light-skinned, black or biracial male, 5'10"-6', average build, wearing a stocking cap, white towel around his face, dark-colored pea coat, white gloves and white tennis shoes.

February 2, 2012, about 7:30 pm, a cab driver was held up after picking up a fare at Illinios Terminal. The suspect asked to be driven to 6th & Vine streets, and pulled a gun on the driver as they neared the area. The suspect got away with money, the driver's wallet, and work cellphone. The suspect is described as a dark-skinned, black male, 25-30 years old, 5'10", with a skinny build. Surveillance photos show him wearing a dark hat, with a red brim, black coat, gray shirt and blue jeans.
