Police pull plug on party bus

CHAMPAIGN -- Authorities catch an illegal party on the move.
CHAMPAIGN -- Authorities catch an illegal party on the move. The party bus was coming from McLean County to Champaign. Most of its passengers were underage. Investigators say they were also under the influence of alcohol.

Police say this is an ongoing problem. Authorities say they sometimes see party buses driving through town three or four times a week. The most recent incident happened Thursday night about 11:30.

State police pulled the "Wild Nites" bus over. Investigators found 60 students from Bloomington-Normal inside. Fifty-one of them were cited for underage drinking.

Police say their biggest issue is keeping those students safe. Police say they found two big tubs of empty beer cans and vodka bottles on the bus last week.

Investigators say 19-year-old Darby Martinez ran from police after the bus was stopped and was arrested for fleeing. One person was also ticketed for having a fake ID.

In Bloomington, you must be 21 to enter a bar. In Champaign, the age is just 19, but you're not allowed to drink if you're under 21.

A representative from "Wild Nites" says it seems like CPD doesn't want ISU students in town. He says authorities have been harassing his bus drivers and making them stop to be inspected each time the come to Champaign.
