Post office survey could determine changes

NEWMAN -- Some Douglas County residents are dealing with surprising news; the post office could be closing. But, it might not if people speak out. People just have to fill out a survey which should be in their mailboxes this week. Some say the option they want isn't on the survey.

That's why Mayor Jim Allen is hoping for more. He says the letter and survey, sent by the U.S. Postal Service, is loaded. It gives four options to change mail service and help save the post office money, but Allen says the option of "no change" is the one people really want. It seems people in town agree.

There's a meeting about the changes at the end of the month. Mayor Allen says it's an inconvenient time for people who may want to speak out about the changes, so he's working to have the meeting rescheduled. He's also urging people to contact their state representatives.
