Ratka takes over at Central

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Central High School will have a new girls basketball coach this year, and Aaron Ratka held his first open gym Friday night to meet some of his new players for the first time. Ratka is a former Division-III player, who spent last season as an assistant coach for the Judah Christian girls. He says his goals for this season will develop as the team gets together, but he had one clear message for the girls Friday.

"I only set one goal, and that's to have no regrets," Ratka said.  "That's to make sure that everyone's committed, that we're all on the same level, we're communicating, we're building relationships and trust with each other, and that we are all in this together 100 percent.  And so while I think the conference championships are goals that are always tossed out there - are always things that are said - it's about the relationship these kids have with each other. It's about how much pride we take coming to work every day."

Ratka replaces Martin Pazanin, who took a job at IVC High School in Chillicothe.
