Rayfield earns extension through 2017

Illinois soccer's winningest coach stays in Champaign
The University of Illinois announce an extension for soccer head coach Janet Rayfield on Monday. The deal keeps Illinois' all-time winningest coach in Champaign through 2017.

Rayfield has a 140-80-22 record at Illinois. She was the 2011 Big Ten coach of the year and guided Illinois to the Big Ten Tournament title game this past season. Rayfield also earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America  honor award. She is the first female recipient of the honor award.

Rayfield was also an assistant coach of the U-20 US women's national team in 2012. She, along with Illini soccer star Vanessa DiBernardo, earned gold in the U-20 World Cup.

"This contract extension is truly an expression of mutual commitment between Mike Thomas and myself to take this program to the next level," Rayfield said in a statement. "I am grateful for the confidence Mike Thomas is showing in me with this contract extension and look forward to the great things ahead for our soccer program and for all Illini athletics."
