Road conditions after snow storm

CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- For those who had to drive Tuesday, you already know it wasn't easy getting just about anywhere.
CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- For those who had to drive Tuesday, you already know it wasn't easy getting anywhere. Highways, county roads and city streets were covered in snow.

Crews responded to one crash in Piatt County along Old Rt. 47 near between Cisco and Monticello. Nobody in either vehicle involved was seriously hurt.

Seeing cars in ditches and medians was a never-ending theme. To keep that from happening, IDOT will be hard at work.

In District 5, which includes Vermilion, Champaign, McLean, DeWitt, and Piatt counties, about 140 salt trucks will be working until 7:00 am. As for District 3, which includes Ford and Iroquois counties, 135 salt trucks will be working until noon.

No one working for public works departments was able to say how long it would take to clear roads once the snow stops. They say it all depends on snow totals, wind, amount of salt used and several other factors.

That means it could take anywhere from two hours to a whole day to completely clear city streets. To see the latest road IDOT road conditions, click here!
