Roads a constant worry for drivers

CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Drivers aren't having an easy ride home. The roads are still covered in slush and ice. Big chunks of hazardous roads are on I-72 near Decatur and Springfield, along with I-57 near Champaign.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office says the area had 22 accidents Monday night. Three resulted in injuries. Sources say one person was hit by a car, but was not badly hurt and is expected to be OK.

It's been one of the worst winters in recent memory, but the Champaign Police Department say it was prepared. They now have all new squad cars and an SUV will 4-wheel drive.

Some of the officers say IDOT is warning people to stay off the roads. They are running low on salt and are using it sparingly. More than 12,000 people in Central Illinois went without power at some point Monday.
