Roads to undergo nearly $1 million makeover

CHAMPAIGN -- Some area roads will get a $900,000 makeover.
CHAMPAIGN -- Some area roads will get a $900,000 makeover. Friday, Governor Quinn announced some of the changes we'll see in the city. He says it's an effort to improve safety on roads and bring jobs to the area.

Part of the money will go toward pavement repairs on Route 150, from I-57 to Mattis Avenue. It will also fix the street on the turn lane near Prospect and Bloomington. That part of the project will cost a little under $200,000.

The rest of the money will go toward work in campustown at the intersection of Goodwin Avenue and Green Street. Improvements will be made on the street, sidewalk, curbs and gutters, along with traffic signals and street lights. That part adds up to more than $720,000.

Some people in the area say they welcome the changes, but others say drivers might not welcome the delays associated with road work. The Illinois Department of Transportation will help manage both projects.
