Seven-year old attacked by "tween" gang?

DANVILLE -- A little boy would like to forget a recent trip to the park. His mother says the 7-year old was beaten up by older kids and she thinks they're members of a gang. WCIA-3's Anthony Antoine has more.

Faye Fugate isn't taking the incident lightly. Since this happened, she's contacted police, the State's Attorney's Office and schools trying to find out who did this to her son.

"Me and my friend, Darius, were playing at the park. And these kids came up and they started bullying me."

Police say those kids are between 11 - 14 years old. They took Cristopher Lovett's tool kit and wouldn't give it back.

"They were hitting and kicking me. They hit me right in my chest all over. One was recording, the other was beating up Darius."

His mother thinks it's an initiation into a gang.

"I mean, you got the older kid videotaping and making the younger ones bully the little ones."

Police say these types of attacks happen in the city, but it's unusual to have a victim who is only 7-years old.

"I want them to go outside and play whenever they want and not worry if some kid is going to run up behind them."

For Cristopher, he doesn't want to go back to the park.

"I already got beat up once. Now, I got beat up twice. I'm not going over there anymore."

"It's bad when they have to be scared to play in the park."

Fugate believes a gang called DTN is behind the attack. Police are familiar with the gang and are taking it seriously. They hope to identify the kids in the next few days.
