Snow supplies scarce

CHAMPAIGN -- With another round of winter on the way, supplies to survive the snow are dwindling.
CHAMPAIGN -- With another round of winter on the way, supplies to survive the snow are dwindling. Ice melt and shovels can be hard to find. Stores haven't been able to keep up with demand.

Do It Best got an order of ice melt in Friday morning on two pallets. Within an hour, it was all gone. That was their whole supply. Employees say they had to start limiting the number of bags of ice melt people could buy to five since they can't keep it stocked.

The store is also out of shovels. That's how this winter has gone for them. George Edwards is president of the corporation. He says the cold weather is freezing lakes and keeping raw materials from getting in, plus, ice melt can't be made.

It seems like, at this point, people have gotten into a routine for dealing with the white stuff, supplies or not.

The city of Springfield already announced a snow emergency starting at midnight on Sunday. It means parking on the snow emergency route isn't allowed. The city says it should be lifted by Tuesday morning.
