Spring's Illini confident heading to NCAAs

URBANA, Ill. - The Illinois men's gymnastics team begins competition at the NCAA Championships Thursday afternoon. By the end of the weekend they could claim their second national title in three years. Illinois rose one spot to No. 5 in the national rankings heading into NCAA's, but head coach Justin Spring expects a Top 3 finish or better. Last year in the team finals, Illinois put up it's worst score of the year en route to a sixth place finish. Spring expects a much better performance this weekend.

"We've got the potential to be in the top three of all the programs, and we have to just show up to the meet and do our job," Spring said.  "I mean that - no sugarcoating - everyone has done the routine they need to do at nationals at least 50 times this year that will put us in the top three spots.  We just need to do it all together.  That can be a little more of a challenge than it sounds."

The NCAA Championships begin Thursday and run through Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
