SRO program helps crime drop

CHAMPAIGN -- The Unit 4 School District has seen a dramatic decrease in crime in the classroom. Research shows it's partly due to School Resource Officers. There is one at every school.

The data was shared with a new committee formed to improve the SRO program. It is a group of officers, community members and teachers. Wednesday, they discussed other ways SRO's in the district can continue to cut crime.

Board of Education Vice-President Jamar Brown said, "We have a fairly new district at the admin level and board level. This is just a chance to see and give everyone a clarity of SRO's, why they're here and why they're important to our district."

The next meeting will be October 30 at the Mellon Administrative Building.
