ILLINOIS -- Online tax filers will get a chance to see where their tax dollars are going this year. A new tax transparency tool, put out by the U.S. Department of Revenue, will give receipts to filers. It will show a breakdown of how money is being spent.

Taxpayers will just need to enter the amount of state income taxes they paid, then a calculator will estimate how it's divvied up among education, public safety and other general revenue. Nearly 500,000 tax returns were e-filed on the departments website last year.
