Students successfully secure scholarships!

CHAMPAIGN -- College costs are rising, but students at Unit 4 are doing their best to help pay the price. Many will apply for scholarships. This year's graduating class did really well.

The Class of 2013 earned $6.7 million in scholarships. That number is up from 2012 when students earned $4.9 million.

District leaders say it's because of several factors. First, the district includes five National Merit finalists. Unit 4 has also upped academic standards at the high schools.

Students also have access to two new college and career centers. One scholarship winner says the counselors really made a difference letting students know what kind of scholarships are out there.

Area students were accepted into hundreds of schools ranging from Berkeley to Georgetown. Nearly 60 graduates are going to UI. More than 200 will attend Parkland.
