Swim club donates to local high school

DANVILLE -- One swim team's loss is another's gain.
DANVILLE -- One swim team's loss is another's gain. After the Team Phoenix Private Swim Club closed its doors, it donated more than $10,000 to Danville High School.

The school will use the money to buy an automatic timing system; a new technology the district couldn't afford without the donation. The money will cover most of the cost and the district will pay the rest, about $2,000.

Superintendent Mark Denman says the technology will help the school host bigger meets.

"Even when you're practicing, there's someone with a stop watch at the end of the lane. I still think that's pretty accurate. But I think there's something very exact and immediate when you can see your time right up on the big screen as soon as you touch the wall."

The new technology will be in place in time for the start of the season. The district plans to honor Team Phoenix at a reception following the swim meet October 7.
