CHAMPAIGN -- It's taken years for one Champaign County woman to reach one of her biggest goals. Now, she's Taking Action to help others follow in her footsteps. WCIA-3's Anna Carrera has her story.

For many people, being healthy is more of a journey than a final destination.

"At my top documented weight though, I was 460."

But, for Suzi Walthall, it all started with a couple steps.

"I decided that day to do all that I knew I could do and that was to go out for a walk. And, I decided if I stick with it, then it'll work."

She taught herself to move in ways she never knew before; pushing herself outside her comfort zone.

"If it started getting too easy, I'd kick it up a level. So, that might mean going a little heavier with the weights or a little more distance. Whatever it was. It was something that I was challenging myself."

She lost hundreds of pounds in those few years, so she decided she wanted to help others do the same.

"I wanted to do it the proper way and I wanted to do it through proper channels."

Now, she's a certified personal trainer.

"Six years ago, I could barely tie my shoes. Now, I'm truly fit, flipping a 300 pound tire in the alley."

This is her second week coaching other people through moves like these, showing that, even if you're not there yet, just being on the road to better health can pay off.

"There is hope. If you stay dedicated to something and you don't give up just because you don't see results right away. Focus on how you're feeling and how you're moving. Look at those things. Focus on those things. Then, those other things will follow."

Along with working out, Walthall says it was important for her to eat better to get in shape. That meant trading in convenience foods for fresh, nutritious ones and keeping an eye on portion sizes.
