SPRINGFIELD -- The state's online healthcare marketplace, GetCoveredIllinois.gov is now live. It's where uninsured residents can sign up for health coverage.

Heavy traffic on the site is causing some glitches. Users reported error messages and incomplete information in question boxes. Governor Pat Quinn says it's a matter of time before all the kinks are worked out.

Many states predict most people will merely test the online system in the early weeks and will likely wait to sign up closer to December 15. That's the deadline for people who want their coverage to start January 1, 2014.

ILLINOIS -- The government shutdown is not stopping healthcare reform. The state's online marketplace is up and running.

Nearly 70,000 people already visited the site as of 3:30 pm, Tuesday. GetCoveredIllinois.gov will help millions buy health insurance.

It's a step-by-step process with a few simple questions about income and family size. Based on that information, you can move into the marketplace or you'll be sent to a Medicaid website.

Insurance offered through the marketplace must offer several benefits including emergency care, hospital stays and prescriptions. The uninsured like what they see. Individuals making $45,000 a year or less could also qualify for lower premiums.
