UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The UI is known for its strong international academics. Now, the state hopes to make that reputation even better. The UI is working in partnership with a top notch university in Mexico; the University of the State of Mexico.

Governor Quinn and Governor Avila, of Mexico, signed an agreement Tuesday. It says the universities will work together on research for veterinary medicine and agriculture; specifically dealing with genetics, bio-fuels, crop sciences and irrigation.

The UI says it's a win-win for everyone. Students and staff will each work at their home universities, but will share their research in these subjects. There will be opportunities for them to travel between both places as well.

The partnership stems from Governor Quinn's trip to Mexico last year. The state says strengthening ties is important since Mexico is one of our country's biggest trading partners.
