UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- A student was scammed out of thousands of dollars after getting a ride to campus. He was headed to the Florida Avenue Residence Hall from Chicago.

Police say a man at O'Hare Airport told the student his bus wasn't coming, but he could provide a ride for $1,000. The driver then charged the victim $4,200 when they got to town.

Police say the 18-year old had just moved here from China and felt like he didn't have a choice. It's a feeling campus police hope to stop. UI detectives are working with Chicago Police to find the suspect.
