UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- The UI College of Engineering is part of a new $50 million partnership. The college is joining forces with the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center in Peoria. Together, doctors and engineers will be able to build new medical devices and improve simulation programs. College of Engineering Dean Andreas Cangellaris says they're as important as flight simulators for pilots.

"Imagine having the ability to do the same with doctors," said Cangellaris. "The encounter during surgery or during something, a situation that is very rare, that you don't want to happen, they learn how to do it. Can you imagine the impact it would have in saving people's lives?"

The dean says the $50 million is a great start, but it's really just the tip of the iceberg. He sees this as a catalyst to help them take on bigger projects in the future.
