URBANA -- The city's library begins a year-long celebration of its 140th anniversary with a free music event this weekend.

The musical group "Don't Ask" highlights the kick-off event, taking place on Cherry Alley on Sunday, June 22nd, from 2:00-3:30pm. Throughout the coming year, the library will hold special events, including guest speakers, additional musical acts, and workshops to showcase its services.

The Urbana Free Public Library started as the Young Men's Library Association in 1872. Two years later, the city took over operations of the library, opening the public.
