Veterans Organization to Raffle Truck at Aaron Tippin Concert Saturday

DANVILLE -- A weekend concert by country music star Aaron Tippin will help raise money to help homeless veterans in Central Illinois.

DANVILLE -- Hundreds of American military veterans spend the night on the streets in Central Illinois. A weekend concert will help raise money to provide vital, life-saving services.

This is the second year for Operation: Appreciation, an effort started by the Midwest Veterans Association (www.facebook.com/MidwestVeteranAssociation) to raise awareness about the problem of homelessness among American veterans. The group's mission is "to educate and eradicate the existence of homelessness among veterans" by partnering with agencies like the Danville VA Homeless Team and other community partners. Together, they deliver needed medical treatment services, provide access to government assistance programs, and let veterans know that they haven't been forgotten.

"Not everyone in this group can fire a gun or treat a wound. But we do know how to fundraise! And we have fun doing it," said executive director Susan Gutterridge.

This year's Operation: Appreciation includes three major events: the Thunder Ride for motorcycle enthusiasts; the raffle of a 1954 Ford truck, rebuilt from nearly the ground-up by volunteers; a benefit concert by country music star Aaron Tippin (www.aarontippin.com), special guest Angie Johnson (www.officialangiejohnson.com), and featuring The Cruse Brothers Band (www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cruse-Brothers-Band/504419753024921).

The event is being held at the Vermilion County Airport on Saturday. Carpooling is encouraged.
