Voter registration headed online

SPRINGFIELD -- One of the country's oldest traditions is getting a 21st century upgrade.
SPRINGFIELD -- One of the country's oldest traditions is getting a 21st century upgrade. Some changes are on the way for elections.

Soon, we'll all be able to register to vote online. So, no more waiting in long lines if you wait until the last minute, or missing out because you forgot to change your information when you moved.

It will be just as easy as the click of a button. You can do it right from your home computer.

Supporters say it will make it a lot easier for people to register. They hope it will encourage more people to vote on Election Day.

The move will save tax dollars since there will be less paperwork involved, but critics worry at-home registration could mean more voter fraud.

The State Board of Elections expects to have the online system up and running by next summer, just in time for the 2014 November elections.
