Voters Weigh in on 13th Congressional Race

CHAMPAIGN -- Voters are weighing in on the 13th Congressional District Race.
CHAMPAIGN -- Tim Johnson announced back in April that he's retiring.  Tonight, the public got to meet the four Republican candidates hoping to take his seat.
Even though the Republican Party chairmen are picking who will represent the district, they want voters to be involved in the process also.
"We just really wanted to see what the candidates were about and the best way to do that's in person," said Nathan Kerpan.  That's why he spent his evening at the candidate forum.
The forum was hosted by the Champaign County Republican Party.  They wanted the public to get to know these four finalists: Jerry Clarke, Rodney Davis, Erika Harold and Kathy Wassink.
"They didn't have a chance to pick in the primary, well they picked Tim Johnson and now some feel disenfranchised.  So this is a great way for them to be part of the process," said Champaign County Republican Party Chairman Habeeb Habeeb.
There are 14 Republican County chairmen who represent the 13th district.  They'll vote on who they want their nominee to be on May 19th.  Champaign County has the largest weighted vote.
