WCIA Vault: Reconstruction of the Old State Capitol (1969)

SPRINGFIELD -- It's a national model of historic restoration right here in Central Illinois. The Old State Capitol in Springfield was built, added to, then "unbuilt" and restored: stone by stone and plank by plank.

SPRINGFIELD -- It's a national model of historic restoration right here in Central Illinois. The Old State Capitol in Springfield was built, added to, then "unbuilt" and restored: stone by stone and plank by plank. We have a look back at this amazing process through the eyes of WCIA's Dick Adams in this story, from the vault.

You have the chance to see this reconstruction yourself! This weekend, the Old State Capitol will be hosting a trivia night to benefit the Lincoln Troubadors (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Lincoln-Troubadours/113886993763), a group of high school and college students who perform Civil War era songs at historic sites during the summer. Visitors will enjoy a silent auction, prizes, and brain-busting trivia. Food and drink will be available. Doors open at 6, the gaming begins at 7. For more information on the tickets, visit www.sangamonhistory.org.

Tours run 9-5 daily at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. For more information, link here: www.illinois.gov/ihpa/Experience/Sites/Central/Pages/Old-Capitol
