Weather 101: Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings

A wind advisory is put out when winds are blowing constantly at 31-39 mph, or there are wind gusts greater than 46 mph. A high wind watch is put into effect when the forecast calls for the criteria of a high wind warning within the next 24-36 mph. A high wind warning goes into effect when there are constant wind speeds greater than 40 mph, or wind gusts at or greater than 58 mph.
When high winds are in the forecast make sure all outdoor property is properly tied down or moved inside. It is also important to restrict travel since visibility can decrease near dry farms, and high profile vehicles can be pushed across roadways.
