This Day In Weather History

1956 - Two people drowned when a tornado overturned their boat on a lake.  This happened northwest of Litchfield.  Damage was done to the roofs of two farm houses and threw 2-ton grain bins for 100 yards.

1996 - 40 to 50 mph winds roared across central Illinois and gusts were over 60 mph.  Damage was reported in many places, including numerous trees and power lines down.  In Charleston, part of the roof was blown off a high school.  Pana had a window blown out of a building and the roof of that building was also damaged.  Forsyth had a tree fall onto a car.
