This Day In Weather History

1947 - Several homes and a tavern were destroyed as a tornado hit the western part of Kingston Mines, which is in souther Peoria County.  The tornado could be seen from Pekin where debris actually fell from the tornado.  Another tornado hit Kingston Mines about 15 minutes later and this one destroyed the post office, barns, and two taverns.

1998 - Severe thunderstorms that developed over Logan and McLean Counties brough a large amount of rain and caused flash flooding.  Most of this was along I-55.  Lincoln had 4 inches of rain in 3 hours.  Most of the flooding occurred from Lincoln to Ellsworth.  Over 1,000 buildings in Logan County sustained water damage.  Damage was estimated around $1.5 million.
