This Day In Weather History

1972 - A tornado first touched down  near Bogota, which is southwest of Newton in southeast Illinois.  The tornado, which was estimated to be an F3, destroyed barns, homes and timber.  Three people were killed in homes about a mile apart. 

1988 - High winds caused many problems in northeast Illinois.  97 windows were blown out of the Sears Tower and the state's oldest tree, estimated to be 700 years old, was blown over.  Wind gusts reached 75 mph at the Chicago lakefront, 60 mph in Bloomington, and 59 in Decatur.
