This Day In Weather History

1948 - A violent tornado in northeast Illinois touched down 2 miles northwest of Manteno and moved into Indiana.  Three people were killed north of Grant Park with 25 injured.  Other strong tornadoes in the area moved from near Coal City to Braidwood and from Calumet City into Indiana.  Further south, two strong tornadoes occurred across the northern parts of Champaign and Vermilion Counties. 

1982 - A record cold settled in for the morning hours.  Champaign dropped to 16 degrees, which broke the city's April low temperature record. 

1998 - Two dozen tornadoes touched down during the afternoon hours as severe t-storms moved through the central part of the state.  Many of the tornadoes were in Mason County with the town of Bath reciving the worst damage.  In moultri County, a tornado touched down south of Cadwell and moved to Bourbon in Douglas County.  nin homes were damaged or destroyed as well as numerous outbuildings.  Ahead of the tornado, the town of Arthur recieved softball sized hail.
