This Day In Weather History2001- Hoopeston had considerable damage done by a downburst. Three businesses were destroyed adn 100 homes sustained minor to moderate damage. The EMS building was actually destroyed. Both the sewer department and a church suffered minor damage. Numerous trees and tree limbs, power poles and power lines were brougth down. Areas to the southeast, east of Rossville also saw some damage. Amazingly, no injuries or deaths were reported and damage was estimated to be around $8.5 million.
