This Day In Weather History1999 - Tornadoes touched down in central Illinois as severe thunderstorms moved through. Montgomery County had the most intexe tornado south of Farmersville. That tornado moved into southwestern Christian County. One person was killed when a semi-trailer was overturned at a rest area on I-55. More tornadoes touched down east of Pana, in Shelby County. Eastern parts of the state saw 70 mph winds that caused damage to trees, power lines, and some buildings. The Mattoon area also reported flooding from these storms that produced $3 million in damage.
