This Day In Weather History1943 - In May of 1943 many rivers in central Illinois set new records for flooding. The Sangamon River set a record crest at Riverton on this date at 31.52 feet. Further downstream, the river reached 33.9 at Petersburg on the 20th and resulted in large sections of the town being flooded.
