Summary of the Severe Weather Event on May 18, 2000

On this day back in 2000, several thunderstorms formed and moved across east central Illinois. It was estimated that over four million dollars worth of damage occurred. Most of this damage was reported in Vermilion County (Georgetown and Jamaica). Baseball sized hail occurred twice within 1 hour in Georgetown causing damage to a greenhouse, thousands of cars, windows, gutters and vinyl siding.  A school in Jamaica sustained around $300,000 worth of damage. In Pesotum, hail damaged eleven Illinois State Patrol cars, totaling $24,000. Thankfully despite all this damage no injuries were reported.
