On June 28th, 1998, severe thunderstorms moved through central Illinois producing a 79 mph wind gust at Lincoln airport. These winds blew down hundreds of trees, tree limbs, power poles and power lines. Several homes sustained damage from fallen trees. These same storms later produced a wind gust of 81 mph at Bloomington airport. This leveled additional tree limbs and power lines across the Bloomington/Normal area.
