SPRINGFIELD -- If you filled up your tank lately, you probably had to dig a little deeper in your wallet.
SPRINGFIELD -- If you filled up your tank lately, you probably had to dig a little deeper in your wallet. Gas prices skyrocketed the past two months.

They jumped more than $0.60 since the beginning of the week in some parts of Central Illinois. Prices from Springfield to Champaign average $3.90/gallon. It's $0.30 higher than the national average.

Gas has been trending upwards around the U.S., but the Midwest has been hardest-hit. Experts say a pipeline burst in Wisconsin and some equipment failures happened a refineries in Illinois and Indiana.

It's the same story around the state. Decatur prices jumped $0.50 last week. Those living in Champaign are paying about $0.55 more.

The big question is when will there be some relief? Experts say it should level off the next few weeks.

Illinois has some of the highest prices in the country right now. Triple-A says we're second only to Hawaii.

Chicago is averaging $4.40/gallon of regular. Indiana is not far behind. It gets lower in Missouri at $3.45. The lowest in the country? Arizona's is just $3.29.
