Wind turbines too close for comfort

IROQUOIS COUNTY -- The county board is revising an ordinance to change where wind turbines can be built.
IROQUOIS COUNTY -- The county board is revising an ordinance to change where wind turbines can be built. Some residents have complained about the appearance and sound of the turbines.

The revised ordinance will require new turbines to be built at a greater distance from non-participating property owners. This distance will be based on the turbine's rotor diameter.

The current ordinance requires turbines be built at least 1,500 feet from houses of non-participating property owners. The revision will change the requirement to a distance that is at least twelve times the rotor diameter from a non-participant's house and 1,500 feet from their property line. The board will discuss the revision at its next meeting Tuesday.
