CHAMPAIGN -- Who can forget the record-breaking cold last week? An area woman was stranded in it for more than two hours. She still can't believe she survived. WCIA-3's Megan Brilley tells her story.

A nearby couple heard her faint screams and called 911. While she survived, it's still going to be a long road. She could lose a finger and her body is covered in severe frostbite. But, that's not even close to being her biggest problem.

"I was just praying to God, 'Somebody hear me please. Somebody help me.'"

This is where Julia Price prayed. She had left work, got stuck and tried to walk home.

"I couldn't feel nothing."

She was paralyzed by frigid temperatures. Neighbors found her two hours later.

"They saved me in more ways than one."

Price was in the hospital for more than a week.

"My whole backside is open. I'm blistered from one side of my cheek bone to the other side of my cheek bone and my inner thighs."

She used this hand to try to pick herself up out of the snow.

"It's throbbing, burning."

Some of her fingers might have to be amputated.

"I'm petrified. I'm more than scared."

But, it's not because she's scared of surgery. Price is a waitress. She doesn't have health insurance. Without her hands, she has no way to earn a living.

"I feel hopeless, worthless, stupid, useless."

But, Price's best friend of 45-years, Pam Hudson, knows that's not true.

"Certain people touch your heart. She touched my heart."

Hudson is doing all she can to help. She's asking businesses to put cans out which people can fill with donations.

"I'm going to go all over town. Whoever will accept them, I'd be more than willing to go there too."

Hudson hopes the community helps, but, no matter what, it's not going to stop her for one simple reason.

"Because she's my friend and she needs help. All friends should stick together when they need help."
