ILLINOIS -- Teenage pregnancy rates are down in the state, but costs associated with them remain high and You Paid for It. Researchers looked at data between 1991 and 2010 in Illinois. They say teenage pregnancy cost taxpayers at least $400 million a year.

The money is going toward government programs like healthcare and welfare. Teenage birth rates dropped almost 50% during that time. It saved taxpayers nearly $550 million in 2010 alone.
