"Element House" returns to campus

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- An energy-efficient house is back home on the UI campus.
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- An energy-efficient house is back home on the UI campus. The "Element House" has been on display in Chicago the past few years.

UI students built it in 2007 for the Solar Decathlon. It took them a semester and a summer to finish it.

The university will use it to teach people about renewable energy. The home stores energy in a battery pack for cloudy days.

Workers brought the home in three pieces. The first part to get back to campus was the living room. Once everything is put together, people can take guided tours.
