CHAMPAIGN -- Investigators are leaving the cause of an apartment fire "undetermined." It started Monday afternoon in an apartment at 310 East Chalmers.

The damage is estimated as a total loss of $100,000. The front room of a second floor apartment was gutted. Officials say it could have been worse if a neighbor hadn't heard the alarm and called for help.
